Benjamin Dix memoranda and account book, 1813-1822.

Book of memoranda and accounts of Benjamin Dix, a farmer and tanner of Littleton, Mass., and former insurgent in Shays' Rebellion. Included are household, farming, and business accounts and memoranda of outgoing correspondence to partners and suppliers in Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire. Accounts include food and sundries, expenses for travel, and other items. Memoranda of correspondence list individual letters, including dates, recipients, and subjects. Most of the letters relate to payments, deliveries, and estates, but a few refer to personal matters, including health and visits. Among the correspondents are Stephen Conant of Windsor, Vt.; Curtis & Coolidge of Windsor, Vt.; Abel Page of Rutland, Vt.; John Peabody of Groton, Mass.; and many others, including Dix's son Benjamin P. Dix and other Dix family members. The volume also contains an entry dated 3 Apr. 1815 that records a conversation with Joshua Brooks of Lincoln, Mass., about the cost of the War of 1812 and import duties.
